fun play foodDec 31, 2008 The products are sturdy and colorful. My grandson enjoyed playing with them. He also was able to stack them like building blocks.
Hungry?Dec 26, 2008 Our 8 year old daughter and 4 year old son play restaurant and grocery store for hours. This is just one of many Melissa and Doug food sets they have. Absolutely necessary stuff for imagination play! They also have the sandwich kit which stays together with hook and loop tape built into each piece.

Great imaginative toy that has weathered a bit Dec 04, 2008 I like Melissa and Doug toys. This set is no different. The pieces are a good size, ranging from about 8 inches (spaghettti) to 4 inches (orange juice). The colors and wording reinforce reading and organization skills for my 6 year old. My 4 year old loves the imaginative aspects of cooking and serving food. The corners are very sharp, so I have to keep an eye on my 2-year old to make sure she doesn't throw them--the rice box gave my 6-year old a decent cut on her forehead when it was "weaponized" (but that was my fault for not supervising well enough).
My only complaint is that the paint chips off pretty easily. Our set is two years old, and it is very dented and chipped from use. This is not a keepsake toy that will last for generations, but it is a sturdy set to use for now.

Pros & Cons about this toyJun 03, 2008 I am a huge fan of the Melissa & Doug food items.. own almost all of them. I do not own this one, but my friend does.. and I wanted to give my review on it.
Pros:
Very durable. These toys will go through everything.. paint stays on well, and can withstand abuse. Obviously, teeth marks.. stepping on them.. throwing them, etc. are no problem for these foods - they will not break.
Cons:
Heavy. Watch your little one's toes with these items..
Not realistic. They are blocks (literally). They are wooden blocks that are painted with "cereal" "rice" etc. Not even the pictures are realistic.. and toddlers can not read these! They get a 1 star for how unrealistic they are..
Bottom line.. yes, they are very good quality, and durable.. but in my opinion, they are more like wooden blocks than food (actually.. they are wooden blocks.. just painted to "look like" food.. which they dont). So I am disappointed with this particular wooden set by Melissa & Doug for the realistic aspect of the toy.
